Infosys layoffs continue to dominate the headlines as reports have now confirmed that the IT giant has terminated more trainees at its Mysuru campus. According to msn.com, Infosys terminated 30 to 45 trainees from its campus as they failed to pass an internal assessment. The company said in the email, “Further to the announcement of the results of your final assessment attempt, please be informed that you have not met the qualifying criteria in the ‘Foundation skills training program’ despite the additional preparation time, doubt-clearing sessions, and several mock assessments opportunities.”
Infosys Employee Termination: What Was Offered to the Affected Trainees?
Differing from the earlier rounds of Infosys employee terminations, wherein full-time workers were offered termination packages, this latest round at the Mysuru campus does not seem to take a similar route.
Reports suggest that affected trainees were given the option to apply for jobs elsewhere within Infosys after a cooling period. However, this does little to alleviate concerns among freshers who had hopes of long-term employment with the company. The company has been under scrutiny lately. A couple of weeks ago, Infosys clarified on “system intervention” in its new work from home policy as it requires the employees to work from office, 10 days in a month.
Infosys insists its recruitment and induction methods depend on performance assessments, and such candidates who don’t perform to expectations might not be considered for permanent jobs. Critics, however, point out that getting rid of such a large number of fresh graduates shows there’s something fundamentally wrong with the company’s talent management policy.
