SpaceX Starship Test Fails After Texas Launch, Raising New Concerns

The much-awaited test of SpaceX’s Starship failed after it launched from the company’s facility in Boca Chica, Texas. The failure happened as the company was going full steam with its ambitions for deep-space exploration, including missions to Mars.

According to the BBC, after only a few minutes since take off, Elon Musk’s Starship failed due to some technological issues. The SpaceX Starship rocket had successfully shot into the sky before running into technical trouble mid-flight, halting the flight in an unplanned termination.

The officials at Elon Musk’s company said on Thursday, “The upper stage was lost after problems developed after lift-off from Texas.” The Super Heavy Boost was able to bring it back to the launchpad. The SpaceX starship rocket’s launch took place hours after the test of the Blue Origin New Glenn rocket system took place.

SpaceX Starship Test Fail

The SpaceX Starship test failure happened during the second integrated test of its fully reusable spacecraft. Reportedly, the vehicle had cleared its launch tower and hit a high altitude when an anomaly was detected which made engineers initiate the automated flight termination system.

On social media, SpaceX’s Chief Executive, Elon Musk acknowledged, “Success is uncertain, but entertainment is guaranteed!” He also added that “improved versions of the booster and ship are waiting for launch.”

SpaceX also posted on X saying, “Starship experienced a rapid unscheduled disassembly during its ascent burn. Teams will continue to review data from today’s flight test to better understand the root cause. With a test like this, success comes from what we learn, and today’s flight will help us improve Starship’s reliability.”

SpaceX vs Tesla

Despite SpaceX’s ongoing issues with Starship, it’s impossible to avoid drawing parallels to Musk’s other project: Tesla. A little while after the launch, xAI’s CEO said, “Preliminary indication is that we had an oxygen/fuel leak in the cavity above the ship engine firewall that was large enough to build pressure in excess of the vent capacity, nothing so far suggests pushing next launch past next month.”
